How can we prevent and stop children and young people from getting involved in crime?

While there is no single explanation for why some children and young people develop non-normative behaviour or start committing crimes, what we do know from research are the risk factors that can negatively affect children's development and increase the risk of criminality.

In many cases, collaboration with other actors, such as the police, schools, health services and civil society, is crucial to achieve results. The smaller, but coordinated, interventions offered at an early stage in the case of an unfavourable development can result in larger and more costly interventions being avoided altogether.
