International Women's Day: Gender equality, work and the right to a life free from violence

Sweden's gender equality policy is based on women and men having the same power to shape society and their own lives. But our statistics show that more men than women moved on to work in 2024. What is the reason for this?

The coordination organisations work actively to early detection of violence, because domestic violence affects the ability to work and can be a direct barrier to getting and keeping a job. Last year, 340 people in the Lumena Conecto sub-project were asked about violence.
Of the 182 women surveyed, 80 responded that they had experienced domestic violence (44%).
Among men, the figure was 30%. At the same time, the 26% of men took the step towards self-sufficiency, while the figure for women was 20%.

To achieve a more equal labour market, we must continue to work on initiatives that both highlight and address barriers that affect the path to work and self-sufficiency.
