3 quick questions for Conecto's accompanying researcher - Renate Minas

1. Can you briefly describe your role as an accompanying researcher in this project?

I am interested in contributing with operational research by following the Lumena project and I am part of a research group that can each contribute with different perspectives. We will jointly investigate how people with complex needs who are far from the labour market are reached and what interventions they are offered to approach work or study. The support offered and the principles on which it is organised will be examined on the basis of organisational conditions and the nature of the interventions.

2. What are the most interesting or unexpected insights you have seen so far in your research?

So far, we have no results. We are in the process of collecting data via the NNS survey and will also conduct some additional group interviews later on.

3. What are the main challenges you have encountered in your role as an accompanying researcher?

The biggest challenge in this phase is getting the surveys completed. The practitioners are very busy with their jobs and find it difficult to find time for the various surveys that we follow-up researchers want to carry out. But it will be good!

More about Renate

Mrs Renate Minas, Professor of Social Work at the Stockholm University, has a broad research interest in European social policy, organisation of the welfare state and social assistance.

Together with Ulla-Karin Schön, Mr Joakim Tranquist and Mr Alexandru Panican Renate is part of a research team investigating how labour market support can be adapted to more fairly meet the needs of people far from the labour market. The study also focuses on how public actors can become more accessible to these groups. A national online survey has been sent out to managers and employees as part of the mapping of working methods aimed at people far from the labour market. The responses will form the basis for evaluating the opportunities and obstacles to developing work on the labour market integration of people with long-term financial assistance.
